ABOUT TD WATERHOUSE (SPREAD BETTING)

Our Financial Spread Betting account provides you with access to our full range of Financial Spread Bets and our Guaranteed Stop Loss service, which assist in the control of risk by guaranteeing the execution price of a Stop Loss order. Guaranteed Stop Loss orders do not limit your profits, simply your losses, therefore providing you peace of mind that if a market moves quickly against you, you cannot lose more than you specified at the opening of the position. However, they can only be offered on more liquid markets.

New to Financial Spread Betting

For an introductory period, you are able to trade with reduced minimum stake sizes, giving you the option to limit your exposure to a level that you are comfortable with. Throughout this period you will have full access to our service, giving you time to build your confidence in Financial Spread Betting and using our online trading platform. The minimum stake size on spread bets is reduced from the standard minimum stake size for this initial period.

This Introductory Low Stake Sizes trading period lasts for four weeks, and is available as soon as your account is funded. Even though you have been given the option of trading with low stake sizes for the full four weeks, there are no restrictions on larger trades meaning that you can move up to larger trade sizes as soon as you are comfortable doing so. Once the introductory period of four weeks is over, the facility to trade with Low Stake Sizes will automatically be removed.

TD Waterhouse is a City Index "white label" service.

The interface is slick and execution is usually speedy with slippage being rare. Spreads are OK and charts are quite basic, we very rarely (never) use them. Spreads are not the best out there but are competitive enough for the main instruments we trade, Forex majors and Indices.

Where TD Waterhouse disappoints though, as do many Spread Betting Brokers, is that it does not allow Order placement close to the current market price. For example, at the time of writing, at least 6 pips away for GBP/USD. As mentioned, this is a general issue with a lot of Spread Betting Brokers with IG Index being the notable exception. This does mean that you can be waiting to get your Order in on one hand with a Trade window open on the other whilst the price fluctuates. This is not only frustrating and time consuming, it can also mean slippage (or a missed entry altogether) if the market moves quickly and you miss the trigger.
