Just want your opinion on some other things....

Just looking through the IG Index site and found the option for "Advanced Charts" and "Trailing Stops". I wanted to get peoples opinions on these.

The trailing stops sounds like a good idea: Has anyone used it? Does it move the stop automatically or do you have o do it yourself?

And has anyone compared the Quick to Advanced chart? I know from reading this forum that, there are the occasional difference between the two; do you think it is worth using the advanced or is the quick good enough?

Trailing stop functionality on IG is good and works well if your trading strategy dictates that you need it - It moves stops automatically on a "step" basis, e.g. when 20 pips in profit move my stop 20 pips.

Charts - Will again be dependent on your personal needs and trading strategy - E.g. We know of many people that use only IG Advanced charts and nothing else - Some use MT4 charts and then trade through a spread betting broker. As above will be a personal decision in the end.

Sorry to appear vague but it really is a matter of finding what you need and what suits. Hope it helps a little.

I use IG and think the platform and charts are excellent also the education section of their website was really useful when I first started.

Got to disagree about slippage being rare however, I regularly get slippage with IG particularly with orders to open and its never in my favour.

Trailing Stops are provided via an external resource (i.e. not on the trading platform) and are NOT GUARANTEED. This means that due to system failure of that resource could cause your stop to freeze.

They could be better - I think the minimum ( which is the same as the normal minimum stop) and the step are still too big for short term trading. But haveing said that, I do use them for my newstrades.

For me, simply the best SB company around. There are honest and they have almost all features you need!!

Although I'm a beginner and don't have too much experience, I've found IG's service to be excellent.
They allow newbies to trade with small stakes to begin with and have a really useful educational program called Tradesense.

The staff at IG are very helpful and will call you to see how you're getting on and offer advice. Requests such as changes of address are dealt with virtually immediately.

All in all, I can't fault them and would happily recommend them to anyone.

I have been trading for a number of years now and agree that IG is one of the best SB firms out there. However, in common with everydaytrader, I have found slippage to be a problem, and of course would prefer a 2 pip spread on cable!

I agree with Lowfat. I am a novice forex spreadbetter and have found IG more than adequate for my requirements. The platform is easy to use, the advanced charts good (although the quick charts are a little primitive) and it is easy to track individual trades. The trailing stop is a bonus (the other S/B platform I use doesn't have them) and the mobile alerts are def. worth having (thank you review team). Whilst I appreciate that the 3 pip cable spread and regular slippage is a real problem for full time and regular traders, they are not priorities for me at the moment. However, if and when I feel the need to open another account for forex I will probably take these issues into account. So that's a thumbs up from me for IG.

Their trade sense programme is very good as they allow small bets (starting at 10p) for a few weeks. If you phone them they are allowed to extend your trade sense time with them so that you can use the programme a total of 3 times.
