CMC Markets started out as a foreign exchange broker (sometimes also called forex) in 1989 when entrepreneur Peter Cruddas famously started the company with a £10,000 investment. Peter called his firm the "Currency Management Corporation" and set up a small office with just a desk and a phone. In 1996 Peter launched the world's first online forex trading platform. Since then CMC Markets has evolved into one of the world’s leading online CFD providers and financial spread betting companies, with over 26 million trades executed annually.

This is an account we used to use a lot, mainly when trading UK Shares intra-day. At that time CMC markets generally had the best functionality and spreads around (for UK Shares).

We liked the MarketMaker platform, the lists it allowed us to build, the trade management, etc. However, when we learnt our lesson (day/swing trading UK Shares was not for us) we generally migrated to IG Index and the City Index/London Capital Group platforms, mainly to trade FX.

This migration was some time ago and we could not recall or come up with the specific reasons for the move other than it was a matter of personal choice (we also think the FX spreads were better on IG Index, but cannot be sure).

One day, if we consider a move from IG Index or start hearing great things about CMC Markets, the MarketMaker platform is certainly one we would have no problem having a look at again.

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct place or not. Have been using CMC markets for S/B (mostly on shares and FTSE 100) for about 18 months. Not brilliant in my opinion. If you try and place multiple bets they all get lumped together which can be confusing (for me anyway as I log every bet, entry exit etc and like all the numbers to tally) as you cant see at a glance how well each individual bet is doing. They also dont do trailing stops and I have been completely shafted on a couple of occasions (with shares) where the price dropped hugely in a matter of seconds only to rise again having taken out what I thought was quite a generous stop loss. I still have an account with them but they can't hope to compete with IG (the only other SB broker I use) unless they up their game considerably. I haven't traded forex with them so cant comment on that .

In my experience, I would not go with CMCMarkets. Not a good experience. With stocks, lots of requotes, spikes to stop you out and so on.

Better to look at another SB company!
